Munkeh - take 2

I finally got around to fixing green Munkeh's face. I think he looks better. I only need to finish his 2nd leg, then he will be finished. To the right is Munkeh (first time around)

Below that is the slightly revamped face of Munkeh. I'm happier with version 2.

The 3rd pix is of Munkeh with his winter hat. We are supposed to get lots of rain, wind and some snow this weekend. I figured he needed a hat.

Now that Munkeh is more to my liking, I'm not sure who will be going on our vacation in December. I may have to take some of the plastic beads out of Munkeh's tush. He is a bit heavy.

Better go, need to get some sleep, get to work tomorrow.

Exciting Movie!

Today DH, Bucket & I headed off to the movies. One of the perks of being retired is being able to do most anything we want, when we want. Bucket watched the cars along the way.

Once we got there Bucket had to try out the bucket seats. Who knew the theatre had Bucket sized seats for monkeys.

We saw an exciting movie called "Hitman" with Timothy Olyphant. Lots of shooting and such but we like the exciting movies. I hope Bucket hasn't been scared for life!

Better go, DH needs me to install a disk for him on the computer. More later.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

After the turkey dinner DH and I and our dog Harry went for a walk along the Columbia River. It was quite brisk and just what we needed after lunch. In fact we had a pretty heavy frost this morning. Made me think of a house we passed yesterday. They had a huge persimmon tree in the front yard. It had no leaves but was covered in lovely bright orange persimmons. It was all I could do not to go begging at their door. Persimmons make wonderful cookies. I've heard they are better after the first frost so they should be perfect now.

Do you like tea - well really, herbal tea? I've never liked tea or coffee but recently tried herbal tea and was pleasantly surprised with all the wonderful flavors that are out there. I've been stocking up on some that sound good. I've tried nearly all of them and what wonderful flavors. I got a box of Celestial Seasonings Tangerine Orange and in the box was a 2-bag sample of Madagascar Vanilla Red herbal tea. Its made with Rooibos (roy boss) from South Africa. Wow, was that good! That gives me another flavor to search for. Now I can be like everyone else out there - carrying around my "cup of something" to drink.

This afternoon I finished up wrapping Christmas gifts and got all the out-of-town boxes packed and ready to UPS after the first of the month. I'm so happy to have that taken care of. Only thing left is to send a few Christmas cards and I even have stamps.

Another family member

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Our turkey is in the oven.

I really need to stay away from the Goodwill store. They just have toooo many cute things.

We found another new family member for the primate side of the family. Please say "hey" to Tang (short for tangerine). Is he cute of what. He nearly glows in the dark.

New friends

Went to the goodwill today - with Bucket navigating the way. We checked out all the shelves of Christmas decoratons, purses (one of ny favorite dept.s I got a Coach purse last time for only $15 - its dark green (fav. color). Made me happy!!

Then we went to the stuffed animal and doll aisle. We saw several monkeys of different types. Nothing really jumped up and caught my eye . . . until I saw this little guy. I guess he is more in the orangutan family. He is so darn cute, he had to come home with us (specially since Bucket kept saying "Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom until I had a look at what he wanted.) Which was Congo. We love his "do" .

Had a look over at Vicious Chicken. She just finished Hairy Lee. What a cutie he is. I'm really hoping VC will sell the pattern for the "smash primates". I woud love t make a few for myself.

how pitiful is that?!

I emailed a lady that collects knit toys for children. I offered her my green baboon boy. I figured some little boy would enjoy having him . The woman declined because he has plastic beads in his tush. She said I should try the fire dept. That some child would enjoy him. So what, a poor kid can have plastic beads in their baboon tush but not sick kids. So don't give it to a small child who would try to get the beads out of the baboon tush and snarf them down their throat! Her loss! He may not be beautiful but he is well made and he is a lovely shade of green. You know what? He is growing on me and I may just keep him for me. I've put in a bid on a PG Tips ITV monkey. He is about 6" tall. I'm waiting to get the exact total I owe. He is a much smaller version of the original ITV monkey but he wil have to do. The big Munkeh's are going for over $60. That is just too much for those guys.

Nekid Monkeys

Why is it, do you suppose, that all the monkey blogs I go to only have monkeys without clothes? As you have seen in previous pix, my monkeys have clothes on. Or, why is it, that I feel the need to put clothes on my monkeys? The first monkey I received (sock monkey) was dressed rather nattily (sp?) in hat, shirt, vest, pants & shoes. Maybe that set the tone for the monkeys at my house. Bucket (soon to be vacationing monkey) even has on socks & shoes. When Bucket was made he had a shirt and short pants on, but he felt like he was walking around in his undies (well, as much as he walks around). So I had to make his long pants. We already had the sweater and shoes from the dolls and he needed a hat - thus the bucket hat and his name.

Bucket's New Duds

I took Bucket to work with me today so I could work on making him some clothes for our trip to Indiana in December. I made him a poncho and a hat. I added little loops to go over his ears so his hat won't come off and get lost. - When I got home I was rummaging thru some doll clothes and found a sweater my sister made for one of my dolls. Also a pair of tennies. Then I made Bucket a pair of long pants. Now he is all set for the trip in December. I considered taking him just the way he is made. But he felt like he was in his undies. So it really was necessary to make him a few things to wear. I also found a denim backpack that his extra hats can go in.

2 Monkeys

I got my latest monkeys finished today. Please see the pix to your right. They are Perry and Bucket, respectively. I'm quite pleased with both of them. I'm thinking of taking Bucket with me when we go on our Hols, next month. Maybe I can get some cute pix of him in Indiana. He will fit into my backpack nicely. I may have to make him a little coat before we go as the weather should be quite nippy. Gotta go, its 1:14am and I have to work tomorrow. So off to bed. Have a good day.

Perry

I finished my humanoid monkey this evenng. Pix to the right > His name is Perry. He is 11-1/2" tall. I'm pretty pleased with him. He wasn't hard to make but the yarn that was called for (Caron soft) is not a very stretchy yarn and crocheting him made my fingers quite sore from the crochet hook. I'm afraid the colors didn't come thru real well in this pix. He is a lime green and a periwinkle blue. His shirt is a nice turquoise and his shorts are a golden orange. I want to put a "P" on his chest. Maybe I can get that done tomorrow.

De-constructing a baboon

I sent a pleading (actually begging) email to Monkee Maker, asking about her version of the Monkee pattern. She was kind enough to send me an answer telling me where (on her blog) she had information about her changes to the ITV Monkee face. I was able to print it out and may actually be able to salvedge my ITV baboon and make him into a cutie Monkee. I will be de-constructing his face and re-making his upper jaw. We'll see how he comes out. === I'm better than 1/2 way thru the amigurumi monkey pattern. (pictured below). So far its going well and I think it will be pretty darn cute when its finished. But then again I thought the baboon boy was going to be cute also. Better go. More later.

I've figured it out!

I've finally figured it out. I know what my green munkeh looks like (obviously, not a monkey). He looks like a baboon. All he needs is fangs and a red butt and he'd be spot-on. Oh well. On to other projects. I've recently purchased an amigurumi book by Gourmet Amigurumi. She makes wonderful crochet animals and humanoids. My next project wil be a monkey humanoid from her book. He is a cutie. (see pix ->). I'm hoping to have better luck with him. I think before I start any new projects I need to finish one more leg for the baboon and two hands for another monkey. Then I will feel free to start the humanoid monkey. I think I'll go to Michaels this afternoon and purchase the eyes I need for the monkey and some more poly beads for the hands, feet and butt of said monkey. Better , time for work. Its payday! Green Munkeh

I've finished my take on the ITV monkey. I followed the pattern exactly. What a joke!! He doesn't resemble the ITV monkey at all (except the body). His upper jaw looks like the hood of a truck. He looks like a gorilla rather than a monkey. So I added nostrils and a brow line to make him look more like a gorilla. I will be trying the "Marion" monkey pattern next. Maybe I will have a better result. If you want to see an adorable version of the ITV monkey go to Monkee Maker. Her monkee 007 is the cutest thing ever.

Knit Munkeh & Frogging

Here we are again on a Saturday. Just getting ready for work. Today is supposed to be gorgeous. Sunny and about 65f. That should bring out the punters. I really hope there aren't very many. = = = I can work on crafts or read a book when its slow at work - so I will be taking Munkeh with me. I need to frog his upper jaw and re-knit it today. I discovered last evening that I knit his jaw upside down. Once that is fixed then I only have 3 more legs to knit and all his parts will be done. Then I can put him together. I'm considering adding nostrils on his face. We'll have to see how they look. Also want to see how he would look with some fingers. I'm not sure what types of eyes he will have. I have the plastic safety type eyes or maybe knit a small piece and put the white highlight on it. I'll try the plastic eye first and see if it looks alive enough. If you'd like to see a nice looking Monkee have a look over at Monkee Maker. Hers are fabulous. Specially 007! = = = Yesterday something got me and I had sneezing fits alllllll day long. My poor nose is so sore today. So far I've not been sneezing. Hopefully whatever it was has passed. Better go for now.

Good Grief

My word, its been over a year since I last posted here. Its also been over a year since DH retired. End of December will be a year of retirement for me also. Right after I retired I took a part-time job with Target. I worked there for 2 months and quit. Then took a job with Catherine's (women's clothing). Worked there about 3 months and quit. RETAIL WAS NOT FOR ME!!! == Now I work part-time at the office of the manufactured home park where we live. I work every weekend showing homes that are for sale. I also work about 6 days a month in the office answering phones, filing, making copies, general office stuff. Its worked out really well - just the right amount of hours that I need per month. Strange thing with having retired and the job I have now - I no longer bite my fingernails. I figure that the stress level has decreased so much that I don't chew my nails off any longer. They are long enough now that I'm having a bit of trouble typing. I guess I need to file them down a bit. = = = End of December DH and I are going to Indiana to visit DS and D-I-L over Christmas. We are excited about our trip! = = = End of January we are expecting our first grandbaby. DS and wife have not asked if its a girl or a boy - they want to be surprised. Also, they are not telling anyone the names they have picked out. You know how everyone feels its their duty to comment on the names and why they like it or don't. Like its any of their business. = = = I've been getting our Christmas projects finished and have everything done. I only need to wrap and box everything up for mailing. We like to get everything done early so we don't have to be out in the crowds with all the crazy shoppers. = = = Started a new knitting project a few days ago. I'm making an ITV Monkey. Its a funny monkey pattern from a TV station that used to be over in England. The monkey was part of the ITV advertisements. When he's finished I will put a pix of him here. Official 1st Week

Tomorrow is Dear Husband's (DH) official first week of retirement. This past weekend we went to the coast for 2 days and one evening. We went to Cannon Beach and Seaside and spent the evening at Seaside. It was quite cool in Cannon Beach but Seaside was warm and sunny. We had a nice time eventhough it was brief. Our little Harry Barker spent the time at the kennel. This evening Harry doesn't seem to be feeling very well. We'll see how is he is in the morning. If no better DH will take him to the vet. Poor little guy is cold and not eating. Hopefully he will be feeling better tomorrow. ==== Been straightening up the house today and nearly have it all tidied up. ==== Dear Son and daughter-in-law will arrive end of this coming week. ==== Next Sunday is DH's retirement party we will be having at our local pizza place. There should be about 30-35 people. We have decorations and one time cameras for folks to take pix at the "do". Its been a good day!

Sunday evening, nearly time for Deadwood, then toddle off to bed. Yes, its another weekend nearly all used up. A week from THursday, DH will have his last day at work. He will be retiring!!! He is so excited and soooooo gald to be leaving where he works. He has bene there for 25 years and really hates it!! Who-Ray for DH!!! -------------------------- This afternoon I was going thru the papers that always collect on flat surfaces. I came across the paper from my work that lets me know how much $ is in my retirement account. I turned it over and happened to read the last paragraph. I've been getting these papers for 20 years and never read the back before. So "happened" to turn it over and read is incorrect. I know it was God stepping in. ANyway, it said Tier 1 emplyees (me) can retired at 58 without being penalized. I figured out our finances and we can do this and still be able to save money. My birthday this coming March I will be 58. I will talk to the HR folks at work tomorrow and if it all goes as I think it will, I will be retiring this coming March. OOH MY GOSH!!! This is wonderful!!! So DH and I will be able to have some good healthy years retired together while we still have all our marbles etc. GOD is good! ---------------------------------- I did a bit of re-arranging in the closets this weekend. I cleared out the little bit of stuff in one closet and moved all my yarn into the empty closet. Have a look. Top shelf is cotton and cones of acrylic, middle is wool and bottom is acrylic and acrylic/wool. Its soo cool to be able to see all the yarn at once and know what I have. ------------------ Did a bit of carpet cleaning this afternoon also, with our new Bissell thingy. With a puppy there are always spots on the carpet. We considered and even got bids on a laminate floor. But the lowest bid was $10,000. We thought that was a bit steep and decided to purchase the carpet cleaner thingy for $200. It works a treat and the carpet looks like new!!! --------------------- Better go for now, Deadwood is beckoning (in 15 minutes). Gotta keep up on the latest. We'll talk later. -Stine

Nearly Friday

Could the month go any slower? Probably, but it doesn't seem possible right now. DH (dear husband) only has 15 more working days until he retires. As you can imagine the days are barely creeeeeping by. He retires on the Aug 31. That means he will (sort of) work til noon. At noon there will be a going away party for him in the lunchroom. I will take that day off of work and I will have arrive earlier and I'll bring some clean clothes so he can clean up and look nice at the do. After the do, he can stay and visit or leave. I guess we'll see what he wants to do. ........................................................................................................................................................................ ...Sept 1 is his 62 birthday. That is a flex day for me so I will be off work. I imagine we'll need to do something way fun on that day - since its his first day of being retired and his birthday and such. I think I'll look into renting a fun car - maybe a hummer for the day. That sounds fun. ......................................................................................................................................................................... Sept 2 (Sat). we're planning to head for the coast for 2 days. We'll meet up with our friend C and have lunch at the casino to celebrate her birthday. Then we'll go to the two small towns we like the best at the coast and spend Saturday evening. ...................................................................................................................................................................... I contacted our vet asking for recommendations for kennels for Harry Barker. We toured one and decided it look pretty good. So Harry will spend his first evening away from home on Sat, Sept 2. On Sept 10 (Sun) we're inviting about 30 folks to meet us for pizza at our favorite pizza establishment to celebrate DH retirement. Our son and daughter-in-law will be flying in for the celebration. ............................................................................................................................................................................ On Monday, Sept 11 we're flying out for Los Angeles for 4 days. We're going to go visit Mickey. My email friend G and her daughter will meet us at Disneyland for the day. G and I have never met face to face, only by email and phone. It will be fun to spend the day with them. The last time we were at Disneyland was before the California Adventure was even built. I hope none of the new rides are throw-up rides. I don't do them. ......................................................................................................................................................................... On Sat. our friend CC is having another big garage sale. We'll be heading over to her house to see what she has and give some morale support, maybe help price some things, if its needed. Last time we went to her sale her sister and daughters were there to "help". What a joke, they sat on their collective tushes and did practically nothing. CC's mother was there also (driving CC bats) so I tried to chat-up her mom and keep her out of CC's hair for a bit. Why is so much easier to entertain someone else's mom than your own. Probably because you don't have any history with her and you don't have to take her home. enough on mom's. .......................................................................................................................................................................... enough for now, take care of each other. . . .

Capt Jack

Didn't go to work today - felt crummy. Worked on a new crochet toy. I was testing a pattern for a very talented lady that makes fun toy patterns. The pattern was for pirates. I made my version of Capt. jack. He turned out ok. The pattern had a bandana sort of head covering but I wanted the tri-corn hat instead. I sent a pix to the lady who made the pattern. She seemed to like it and even asked for the pattern for the tri-corn hat and asked if she could include the pattern on her sale page for the pirates. Then I had to write it out - easier said than done. But I sent it along. I'm sure she will give it a try and fix anything that needs its. This is DH last month at work. He is really chomping at the bit for Aug to be over, so of course, August will ddrrraaaaggggg something terrible. Poor bunny. I still have 4 1/2 years before I can retire. Once he has reitred he and Harry Barker can bond a bit more. Right now Harry is more likely to sit on or by me rather than DH. When its just DH and Harry, I imagine they will bond. Hopefully.
